Discipleship Pathway

What is a Discipleship Pathway?

As seen in Scripture, discipleship is a dynamic, lifelong journey of centering your life around Jesus, not a linear sequence of steps or program to complete. Each of us follows, is transformed by, and relates to Jesus uniquely. For this reason, there is no universal or “one size fits all” path of discipleship. Instead, followers of Jesus are encouraged to go at their own pace down the path we believe the Holy Spirit and Scripture is leading us to as a community.

At Park Community Church - Hyde Park, this looks like engaging with four rhythms woven into the life of our Church: belong, growing, serving, and sharing. Our goal is that each person in our church steps into each of these rhythms at their own pace as we seek to look more like Jesus each day.

Belong

Grow

Joining the family: get to know us so we can get to know you.
Becoming More Like Jesus - build rhythms and habits that allow you to become more like Him

Serve

Using your Gifts for Others - serve in the ministries of the church and community

Share

Making Jesus known - take God's mission into people and places that need it through our words and actions
Sunday Gathering
The Sunday gathering is central to our discipleship and our community. Coming together as a church family and worshiping God is the most significant gathering we do as a church! It's also the space to make first-time connections and meet the church family.

We invite you to join us at our weekly Sunday gathering at 10am at Ray Elementary School, 5631 S Kimbark Ave. More info here.
Missional Communities
Our missional communities (small groups or community groups) are an extension of our church that meet throughout the week to be in relationship together, study the Bible together, pray together, and seek to serve others together. They are open to anyone and any level of faith. They also meet throughout Hyde Park and the surrounding neighborhoods.

If you are interested in joining on, fill out the interest form here.
Additional Events
We also plan other events like our New-to-Park Lunches, our Lunch and Learns, and other fellowship opportunities. Check out our event page to join one of those!
God's Word
Becoming more like Jesus requires us to know and study His Word to us. Every Sunday Gathering, we preach from God's Word and we also study it throughout our Missional Communities.

During the year, we also encourage our church in individual disciplines like Bible Reading Plans, Devotionals, and other classes.
Prayer
Prayer is the heartbeat of the Christian faith and draws us into Communion with God. Therefore, prayer is part of every ministry and gathering we have as a church.

We pray together every Sunday Gathering before our service at 9:30am with our volunteer team. Our deacon team also would love to pray for you and with you. You can do so by filling out this form
Baptism
Baptism is our outward expression of our inward faith. It's a way of publicly declaring that you are a follower of Jesus. If you've never been baptized as a believer, discover more about baptism through one of our upcoming classes.

You can click here to find out more information about the class or email our pastor.
Membership
We believe that membership is for those who desire to call Park Community Church - Hyde Park their home church and commit to the vision here. In membership, you choose to partner with our church and devote to growing alongside us in the various practices God has given for us.

We host membership classes 2-3 times a year. After taking the class, you will have additional homework, and then have an interview. You can find the details in the next class on our event page.
Give
One of the greatest gifts we can give to others is our financial resources to the church and the work God has called us to. This is also an area in which are called to grow in our discipleship to Christ. You can learn more about how to give and how we handle our finances as a church.
Spiritual Formation
As a church, we will provide intentional spiritual practices through individual plans, our missional communities, and various classes. We have utilized much of the Practicing the Way Resources and definitely recommend their resources for anyone's spiritual formation.
Serving the Church
There are many ways we can utilize our spiritual gifts to serve our church family. We have opportunities to serve in one of our Sunday Ministry Teams to help serve our church every week.
  • Children's Ministry
  • Worship and Music Team
  • Setup Team
  • Connections and Greeting Team
Serving our Partnering Organizations
There are many amazing organizations we partner with that serve our city and country. You can check out our page at the bottom of the screen to learn more about those organizations.
Global Outreach
Our Global Team at Park Community Church seeks to mobilize every person in becoming a global follower of Jesus. Our global ministry offers several ways to pray, to serve, to learn, and to even go on what it means to serve cross-culturally and across the world. Whether it may be helping local refugees, building friendships with international students, serving our global workers overseas, or regularly praying for unreached people groups and much more.

Local Outreach
As a church, we hope to love our neighbors as ourselves through serving and caring and seeking justice for our neighbors. Over the past few years, we've continued to build partnerships and relationships among local organizations and over the past years with Park's history in Chicago. We have sought to help the youth, provide job training, supporting migrants, local schools, and much more.

Church Planting
As a recent church plant ourselves, we believe that by supporting and equipping more church plants, more people will be able to connect to a local church and hear the Gospel. We partner with various church planting organizations like Mission:All (Park's main church planting arm) and others.
